The Ford 7.3 Powerstroke diesel engine has long since become a legend. Deserved or not, stories of 7.3 Powerstrokes reaching a million miles seem to pop up everywhere. And it's almost annoyingly common to hear someone brag that they know a guy who knows a gal who's got over 500k miles on her 7.3 diesel and still has a 7.3 MPG of 22.

Try to buy one of these twenty year old unicorns and you'll swear that every person who has one took a used car salesman course on how to sell it. I mean come on—20k for a 20 year old truck? (Then again, why are they selling it?) 

But myth and legend aside, I've owned four 7.3 Powerstroke diesels and a couple of its Ford Powerstroke cousins. And just like myth and legend, some of the 7.3 diesel stories are true and some are... Well, let's just say you'll still have to change the oil and take care of common 7.3 Powerstroke problems just like any other "normal" diesel truck.

But if you do that—properly maintain your Ford 7.3 Powerstroke diesel—you just never know when you might win the Powersrtoke 7.3 million-mile lottery.
